Torat Imecha - 2/7/20

Writer's picture: TAG Lines!TAG Lines!

I walked a visitor through our school this week. The walls and doorways were adorned with the greens of trees and the bright hues of flowers for the month of Shvat. A group of eighth graders were learning in the library. One or two caught our eyes, smiled and waved. In the MPR, two high schoolers were using a saw to cut wood as Rabbi Sheinkopf supervised. Mrs. Sprung’s high school team was painting the scenery for our upcoming production of Peter Pan. The “Lost Boys” had just finished rehearsing their dance. In the computer room, Dr. Ferguson’s sixth graders were busily engaged in collaborative learning, a group at the board, others clustered around computers, one or two at her desk. Mrs. Bashiry’s eighth grade Ivrit class was equally busy, with small groups in each part of the room. There was more conventional learning going on in other classrooms. Mrs. Brody’s art room was alive with music and creativity. Girls in the hall smiled and greeted the visitor and she said to me, “I like the vibe here.” And I was thinking, “So do I.”

Today, we had two speakers. Beatie Deutsch, a frum mother of five who has won the Jerusalem Marathon and the Tiberias Marathon. She is currently training to join the Israel Olympic team. Beatie taught the SBTAG girls that no obstacle should stand in the way of achieving your goals.

When you remain committed to your Jewish values of Tzniut, you inspire the respect of others and create a Kiddush Hashem. Then Elie Klein spoke to the girls about the Aleh Foundation, which is dedicated to caring for severely disabled children in Israel. We are one of the South Florida schools partnering with Aleh, and this month of Shevat is particularly This month is we are participating in the Aleh B'Chinuch program which coincides with the month of Shevat. Aleh, which means leaf, is about facilitating the growth and development of these children. It is truly a privilege for us to be part of this process and we look forward to continued collaboration.

Once again, I can say, “I like the vibe here.” I am truly proud of our SBTAG Chesed community.

Shabbat Shalom,

Mrs. Tobi Wolf
